000 Petite at Banana Republic

**This post has an update here**

Ok, so I admit I’ve joked around about being a non-existent size. I’ve been known to sarcastically proclaim myself a size -1…or a size 000. But to have it really be true? Honestly, Banana Republic, are you serious? But hey, if it fits…I’ll be first in line! Behold Banana Republic’s new size charts in the Petite Fit Guide: For tops: For Pants:

Some tops are already available in size XXS P, but no pants have been added to the website yet. This new size 000 P is also on the size chart for blazers and outerwear, dresses, and skirts. Stay tuned! If the introduction of size 00 to the fashion industry caused controversy about it’s association with unhealthily thin women, I wonder if this will ruffle some feathers as well.

  1. You’re completely right, BR does vanity size. Along with most other chain and mid-range brands (JCrew, I’m looking at you!). My mom was the same size as me, and she wore sizes 2-4 just a few decades ago. However, I have to give BR credit for delving into petite sizes, and then making tiny ones at that. If BR wants to make clothes small enough to fit me and call them 000, I’m fine with that. It’s more than most clothing lines are doing.

  2. Unbelievable, they should really just shift their current sizes! A while back, when the size first came out, I bought a 00p top and pair of martin dress pants which both fit like a glove. The top was even almost too snug! Last month, I ordered some 00p items online including the same exact cut martin pant, expecting the same fit, but they were horridly baggy in comparison. Please post if you start seeing 000p items online!

  3. It is not just BR that has been doing vanity size, the entire fashion industry has been doing that. 10 years ago kid's size 14 could fit me snugly, now I have to get kid's size 12 jeans. 10 years ago 0-2p fitted me just fine. I've recently tried 00p dress pants from both BR and Ann Taylor. They were all 1 inch too big. Can't wait to see 000p online at BR!
